About Us

The Crime and Disorder Act 1998 placed a statutory duty on local authorities to create Partnerships to tackle Crime, Disorder and Anti Social Behaviour issues.

In Sedgefield Borough we have come together as the Sedgefield Community Safety Partnership.  The agencies that form the core of the Partnership are known as the responsible authorities, these include

  • Sedgefield Borough Council
  • Durham County Council
  • Durham Constabulary
  • Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue Authority
  • Durham Police Authority
  • Sedgefield Primary Care Trust.

The Partnership aims to:·

  • To reduce crime across the Borough, increase public confidence and help to make people feel safe on the street and in their home.
  • To reveal the extent of domestic abuse in the Borough by increasing public confidence to report incidents and by raising awareness of domestic abuse issues with the ultimate result of reducing incidents of domestic abuse.
  • To increase public reassurance, creating sustainable communities where the public feel safe, by addressing anti-social behaviour and quality of life issues.
  • To reduce the adverse impact that drugs and alcohol have on individuals and communities in Sedgefield Borough.

Sedgefield Borough is already a safe place to live and work and there is plenty going on to help you feel more secure.

There are ongoing projects in our area to help crack down on crime and anti social behaviour - Neighbourhood Wardens, Community Police Offices, Domestic Violence Outreach, Drug Interventions, Crime Prevention, Community Reassurance.

Sedgefield Borough has a total crime rate 26% lower than the average for England and Wales. (Audit & Strategy 2005)

We want to work together with you to keep CRIME low.
